Polyfest
Splendidly attired in their new uniforms, our students performed at the Regional Polyfest in Porirua. Months of passion and hard work came together in a stirring performance, full of pride for both their Polynesian heritage and our kura. More photos here.
Spelling Bee
On Wednesday, the 11th of August, a group of students from Newlands College headed into the NZ Aotearoa Spelling Bee Semi-Finals, having placed among the top 280 spellers in the country. Held in the City Art Gallery, students put their wits to the ultimate test, spelling various words like 'chanticleer' and 'cirise'.
Huge congratulations to these students for performing exceptionally well in the midst of pressure and crisis, and especially to Tristan Lim (pictured far right) for making the top 6, narrowly missing out on a place in the National Final thanks to the last 3 letters of the word, 'disavowal'.

Big Sing Cadenza
Building on their success in the Wellington Big Sing, Northern Notes competed at the Lower North Island Big Sing Cadenza during August. During their time in Whanganui they stayed at a Marae, which was an experience they will never forget. The wairua and aroha went with them onto the stage and came through in their performances.
At the Cadenza, 12 choirs competed. Northern Notes was one of the four choirs to receive the top award: Tūī.

Wā ako
On the 22nd of September, the time had finally come for the Year 10s to show off their Wā Ako projects. We had all been working hard for so long to this moment. There were so many amazing projects, from learning how to dance, making clothes and jewellery, conquering the Rubik's cube and a cardboard roller coaster. It was amazing watching everyone so proud about sharing their successes and learning journey with their peers.
